Two British museums are returning looted gold and silver artifacts to Ghana, 150 years after they were taken from the Asante people during colonial conflicts. The British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum, in collaboration with Ghana’s Manhyia Palace Museum, announced the return of 17 items, bypassing UK laws that block permanent returns.
The artifacts, of significant cultural and historical value, were looted during the Anglo-Asante wars. This move is a step towards addressing colonial history and the rightful ownership of cultural treasures.
